I come from a long line of car guys. While I may not posses the grease monkey gene, I’ve still learned a lot from them.
Our websites are being boarded in the night and hijacked by the very people we thought were our friends. The weapon of choice isn’t a cutlass, a dagger or even a feisty parrot. It’s the frame bar. Many Web 2.0 sites that are supposed to be-by-the people for-the-people are using frame bars to plunder their users’ page views, content and overall site aesthetic.
I appreciate things that are functional and well designed; like my watch. I can read it at a glance, wear it anywhere, and when necessary, I can calculate anything from interest rates to restaurant tips.
To me, The Big Lebowski explains a lot about the whole durned human comedy.
It takes time to maintain websites. If you paid good money and put forth good effort in getting your website launched why would you release it to a free-for-all environment where anything can be changed without any consideration for design and overall usability?
It’s not good to let things sit for too long. Use it or loose it. When a creative project begins and all the ideas are on the table, the vision and goals are fresh on everyone’s mind. While the final product may not be clear, it will directly benefit from a consistent work pace. When a project is postponed it can be tough stepping back into a process the team hasn’t worked in for months. To me, it is a lot like digging in the back of the bottom refrigerator drawer hoping that what was so crisp to begin with didn’t go bad while we let it sit.
