As soon as I sniff out someone being fake, trying to sell themselves too hard, or not being thorough, I've not only lost all interest in that person/business... I purposefully avoid them in the future. I think people need to realize that not all attention is good attention. If I start following "Snickers" on Twitter - well, that is my own fault. But if I start following an author whose book I've bought, and they just send an endless stream of pompous self-promotion, I definitely won't buy a book from them again in the future. The best communities and the web-gurus that have the strongest following have "cultivated their brand" through genuine thought, speech, and listening to one another. -Chris I can’t agree with you more on this one.
